NOV-DEC 2020 | Homeplace: Fiber Work by Susan Fletcher Conaway and Woodwork by Lloyd Fletcher

My dad and I have work at Sugar Creek Art Center in Thorntown, IN, through December 2020. We’ve both enjoyed working towards this show and I hope I can convince Dad to do it again sometime. Sugar Creek Art Center is open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, 11 am -5 pm. Let us know if you make it in to see the work, we’d love to hear from you. Here’s an album of the show for those who won’t be able to visit in person.

SUSAN FLETCHER CONAWAY . Susan is based in Zionsville, Indiana. She is inspired by the quilt-making traditions of repurposing cloth and a variety of traditional and non-traditional fiber art techniques. Her fondness for rescuing unwanted fabrics, textiles, and discarded everyday materials also influences her work. Susan combines traditional quilt block patterns and visual organization with colors and imagery inspired by personal experiences. Techniques utilized include hand quilting, hand applique, hand embroidery, hand painting fabrics, machine quilting, and deconstructing by hand and scissors. Recently, she has also been using fabrics and family ephemera to create mixed media collages and paintings.

LLOYD FLETCHER . Based in Milan, Indiana, Lloyd uses reclaimed, weathered, and spalted wood to build one of a kind furniture and gifts. He breathes new life into materials that may have otherwise been forgotten, unwanted, or overlooked. His current work incorporates reclaimed wood, metal, and leather. Each of Lloyd’s works is one-of-a-kind with its’ own unique story and connection to its’ maker and materials. He creates pieces that are meant to be lived with, used, and well-loved. In this way, the story of each piece continues.

ARTIST CONNECTIONS . Lloyd and Susan are father and daughter. They share a family affinity (or curse) for finding creative inspiration in just about every weathered, worn, discarded material they come across and so enjoy building and creating with an inexhaustible source of supplies and possibilities.
